Being a constitutional monarchy, the kingdom of Norwegen is an area of northern Europe within the very western part of the Scandinavian Peninsula. Norwegen was the very first European nation to declare its independence, and is now listed as one of the wealthiest nations on the globe. Norwegen is gifted with extensive natural resources which include the largest fishing industry in the world, rich natural gas fields and vast areas of forest. Norwegen is the world's second largest exporter of seafood, second only to China.

Norwegen's geography is typified by rugged coastline, large fjords and several thousand small islands. Norwegen covers a total land area of almost 400,000 square kilometres, although much of this land mass is mountainous, caused by extensive glaciations during the ice age.

During summer months the winter sports take a backseat and the area becomes a favourite with walkers and mountain bikers, along with fishermen and brave souls who partake of the ice-cold waters of the lakes in which to swim. Tryvann Vinterpark is extremely close to Oslo city, an ideal destination for a day trip.

For a taste of traditional Norwegen and to sample its ancient culture, the town of Dr?bak makes an excellent choice of destination to explore by car. This quaint old town sits upon the edge of a large fjord, and is an increasingly popular destination with summer visitors. The old town centre features traditional old wooden houses and has a vibrant and healthy antique and art trade happening within its cobbled streets. Out along the banks of the fjord can be found some excellent examples of old 'captain houses'. Situated out in the fjord itself is the fortress, this is one of the most famous fortresses in Norwegen and has been converted into a museum.
